Once I became a pet sitter, I felt like I had finally found my purpose. I had always enjoyed helping people and being of service but had found some of my previous jobs emotionally unfulfilling. I have since realized that my career as a pet sitter is my calling and is the perfect fit for me.
The purpose of a pet sitter is to give both clients and their animals peace of mind when they are apart. Our clients need to have a guilt- and worry-free respite from their responsibilities. We provide loving care for their pets, helping them feel as comfortable as possible while their people are away from them.
We also have the responsibility of protecting the clients’ privacy and confidentiality and to make it look like things are business as usual at their house. There is great satisfaction in a job well done, and this is shown through the gratitude of our clients and the knowledge that their animals are calm and happy when they return home.
Pet sitting is not a career that you go into because you think that you can get rich walking a bunch of dogs. You can find prosperity, however, if you are mindful about what you are doing. For all of my years in the business, I have been able to make a good living at this.
It is the most rewarding career I could ever have imagined and I can’t envision myself doing anything else. If you feel called to provide care, comfort, and service to people and their animals, this is a great career to explore.
